Malcolm BaileyMalcolm Bailey

After being educated at Burnley Grammar School, Malcolm joined Martins Bank in 1962. He spent the next 37 years with Martins which became Barclays where he was:

  • Business Advisory service Manager
  • Senior Corporate manager
  • Branch manager
  • Head of Small Business

After taking an early leavers package from the bank in 1999 Malcolm set up Atkinson Bailey Consultants Ltd as he felt he had something to give to the small businesses.

He qualified as a consultant with the Business Accreditation Bureau and become a trained advisor for the Benchmark Index. He was also a Chartered Secretary in public Practice and a registered business development consultant the National Business Link Consultant Register.

He is now a Member of the Institute of Business Consulting and is on their list of approved consultants. He is also an associate member of the National Association of Corporate Finance Brokers. His comprehensive knowledge of the banking system is invaluable in giving advice which Malcolm tries to keep as objective as possible.

He lives in Bolton with his wife Janet. Their two children now 35 and 32 are long flown from the nest pursuing their own successful careers.

He plays club tennis, very occasional golf and salmon fishing and runs a pre war car in regular rallies through the Pennine countryside. He maintains the car himself being referred to by one of his neighbours as an “oily rag”!

He enthuses about small businesses and the importance they are to the commercial world having seen a number turn into substantial business during his banking career. He likes to think that the lending of the first £5,000 set them on the road to success. He also admits to a few failures and is keen to advise budding entrepreneurs of the warning signs that he identified with the traditional bankers hind sight.
